How it worksShow guide

Introduction

XPortal is Bestrao’s official privacy-first file room. You connect with a temporary numeric code via the signaling server, then drop files into a live shared room. Guests see every add and remove instantly and download only what they choose. Files stream over a direct WebRTC DataChannel with SHA‑256 verification — nothing is uploaded to Bestrao.

Step-by-step

  1. Host: Generate Code and share the numeric Bestrao code
  2. Guest: Enter the code and Connect
  3. Both devices show Connected after WebRTC completes
  4. Host: Drop files into the Live Drop Zone — the guest list updates in realtime
  5. Guest: Click Download on each file you want; stream starts on demand

Worked example

Alex generates an XPortal code on a laptop and shares 583 194 726. Sam enters the code on a phone. After Connected, Alex drops movie.mp4 and photo.jpg — Sam sees both appear with Waiting. Sam downloads only movie.mp4; photo.jpg stays unshared until requested.

Use cases

  • Share large media between your own devices without a cloud drive
  • Hand a package of files to a colleague with on-demand download
  • Keep a live drop zone open while you add more files mid-session
  • Verify integrity after transfer with SHA‑256

Frequently asked questions

Is XPortal free?

Yes. XPortal is a free Bestrao Originals product. You can open rooms and transfer files without paying or creating an account.

Do my files get uploaded?

No. XPortal never uploads file contents to Bestrao servers. Metadata and file bytes travel over a direct browser-to-browser WebRTC DataChannel. The NestJS backend is signaling-only.

Is my data stored?

Bestrao does not store transferred files. Connection codes and session metadata are temporary in Redis and expire automatically.

How secure is XPortal?

Transfers use WebRTC DataChannels protected by DTLS. Integrity is verified with SHA‑256 after download. The numeric code is for discovery only; ephemeral session tokens authenticate signaling.

Do I need an account?

No account, login, or install is required. Open XPortal in a modern browser and start a connection.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes on modern mobile browsers that support WebRTC. For the best multi‑gigabyte experience, Chrome or Edge with File System Access support is recommended on desktop.

How do connection codes work?

The host generates a temporary numeric code. The guest enters that code. NestJS matches the peers for WebRTC signaling only — files never pass through the server.

What browsers are supported?

Any up-to-date browser with WebRTC DataChannels. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari are supported; large file saves work best where the File System Access API is available.

Can I transfer folders?

Not yet. Dropping a folder shows a friendly message asking you to select files only.

How large can files be?

XPortal streams with Blob.slice and never loads entire files into memory. Multi‑GB transfers are practical; very large files work best in Chrome/Edge with filesystem writer support.
